Bulletproof Models: Panther Ausf. D (Assembly)

The Panzer V is one of the most attractive and interesting tanks of the WWII. For this reason it has also became one of the most reproduced subjects in all his versions and variants. Obviously, that makes it harder when you want to do something little different.

El Panzer V es uno de los tanques más atractivos e interesantes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Esta es una de las razones por las que también se ha convertido en uno de los sujetos más reproducidos en todas sus versiones y variantes. Obviamente, esto lo hace más difícil cuando quieres hacer algo un poco diferente.

The Project (El proyecto)

As I wanted to focus on the early versions of the Panzer I looked into Ausf. D and A variants. After watching hundreds of pictures, and reading lots of info I finally chose the Ausf. D variant. In particular, I was going to reproduce an Ausf. D middle version with a detail I saw in several photos. What made this subject interesting was the pyrotechnical gunfire simulator fitted to the barrel. Pz.Rgt. 24 used several Ausf. D during basic training in Voussiers in 1944. I didn't want an exact replica of that subject, but I chose each feature taking in account all the information trying to make a "very possible" Panther.

Como había decidido centrarme en las versiones tempranas del Panther, investigué las variantes Ausf.D y A. Después de ver centenares de fotos, y de leer montones de información finalmente me decidí por la variante Ausf. D. En particular iba a hacer una versión intermedia del Ausf. D con un detalle que había visto en varias fotos. Lo que hacía interesante a este sujeto en particular era el simulador de proyectiles pirotécnicos ajustado al cañón. La Pz.Rgt. 24 uso varios Ausf. D durante el entrenamiento básico en Voussiers durante 1944. No buscaba hacer una réplica exacta, pero escogí cada característica teniendo en cuenta toda la información recopilada e intentando hacer un Panther "muy posible".

The Kit (El kit)

I'm not going to do you a full review of the kit, only give a brief opinion about it. In case you want to do this kit and want a full review you have several options. I'm giving you two:

As you suppose I used the Dragon Panther D w/Zimmerit (ref. 6428). First of all I must say this is a good kit. And it's by far the best base to anyone who wants to reproduce a middle-late Panther Ausf. D. Really good representation of the Zimmerit and excellent detail and engineering all around. Focusing on the "worst" parts of the kit, we have almost any option with markings, the DS tracks (magic track not included), and the instructions. Although I think this is a kit that really needs auxiliary bibliography, even with that, the instructions will confuse you at some point. Not difficult but erratic. I added the Bronco's "late" workable tracks.

No voy a hacer un análisis del kit, simplemente dar una breve opinión. En caso de querer hacer este kit y necesitar un análisis completo del mismo mirad los enlaces de arriba.

Como suponéis, el kit utilizado es el Panther D w/Zimmerit (ref.6428) de Dragon. Primero, decir que es un buen kit. Y es sin duda la mejor base para todo aquel que busque reproducir esta variante del Panther. Una muy buena representación del zimmerit y excelente detalle. Centrándonos en lo "peor" del kit, tenemos casi nulas opciones con las calcas, DS tracks y las instrucciones. Aunque de primeras yo creo que este kit necesita de biografía auxiliar, incluso con esta, va a ser difícil no confundirse con las instrucciones. No son difíciles, pero están plagadas de errores. Añadí unas cadenas tipo "late" de Bronco.
