I present my scale model of the King Tiger “Tiger 104” from SS Panzer-Abteilung 501, one of the most emblematic units deployed during the Ardennes Offensive in December 1944. Although this is not a 100% accurate replica of Tiger 104, I have tried to follow as closely as possible the camouflage patterns and color scheme attributed to this vehicle during that period.
Tiger 104 is a particularly interesting vehicle due to an unusual detail: for reasons still unknown, it never had the turret number “104” painted on it and only displayed the standard Balkenkreuz. While returning from Cheneaux to Le Gleize, and almost inside the village, it suffered a mechanical failure that broke a track on 18 December 1944. After this breakdown, the tank was left immobilized and eventually ended up being used as a target for bazooka training.
Os presento mi maqueta del King Tiger “104” de la SS Panzer-Abteilung 501, una de las unidades más emblemáticas desplegadas durante la ofensiva de las Ardenas en diciembre de 1944. Aunque no es una réplica 100 % exacta del Tiger 104, he intentado seguir con la mayor fidelidad posible los patrones de camuflaje y la combinación de colores que se le atribuyen a este carro en ese periodo.
El Tiger 104 es un vehículo especialmente interesante por un detalle poco habitual: por razones aún desconocidas, nunca llevó pintado el numeral “104” en la torre, unicamente mostrava la Balkenkreuz estándar. Regresando desde Cheneaux hasta Le Gleize, y casi dentro del pueblo, tuvo una avería que rompió la cadena el 18 de diciembre de 1944. Tras la avería, el carro acabo inutilizado. Acabó sirviendo de blanco para entrenamiento de bazookas.
